Meet Our Vets
Dr. Jeffrey Abelt
Dr. Susan Abelt
Growing up, Dr. Jeff always knew he wanted to work closely with animals, and managed to find employment throughout his high school and college years doing exactly that, working at high end horse breeding stables, large agricultural operations and helping to manage a dairy farm. In 1986 he graduated from Veterinary School, and continued to work with family farms and horse stables for many years, as well as owning and operating a traditional companion animal practice for dogs and cats. Over the years his interest in small animal orthopedics grew, and he went on to travel around the country to receive training in the latest and best techniques, which is an area of practice he continues to very much enjoy.
Dr. Susan knew from a young age she wanted to be a Vet. She grew up riding horses and competing at dog shows whenever she could. Through college she supported herself as a groomer and professional dog trainer, and volunteered at local shelters and Vet Clinics. After graduation from Vet School she was able to share her love and experience as a teacher for Youth Summer PreVet classes at a local University, and was employed as their Staff Vet, serving on the IACUC for several years. She also very much enjoyed being employed as a Zoo Vet at various zoos over the years, and co-authored a paper for the CDC. She loves being a Vet and working with companion animals, and in her spare time still enjoys her horses and getting to the dog shows when she can.
